My question involves criminal law for the state of: Virginia
I was playing a video game totally unaware of what my ex was doing behind me. I knew she was somewhere in the arcade though. I am 19 and she is 18. She walked up behind be, threw her purse at my legs quite hard and got up and pushed me over to get her purse. I, in self-defense, thinking she was going to do something to me, pushed her away. She came back at me, and I pushed her away again and then immediately left. And now I believe I have an assault and battery charge against me. I had a reckless driving ticket about a year and a half or two years ago and it was dropped as long as I went to driving school. Other than that, I have had no priors. What is the usual sentence for a first time offender in this matter?
