You can get copies from the state. They will be certified and legally accepted in place of the original.
As far as I was told birth certificates are the property of who's name is on it. Not the person who paid for it. Once your 18 they are supposed to give them to you is what I was told. I found this out from a govt office yesterday.

I wasn't born in the states, I was born in germany, but i'm classified as a US Citizen born overseas. How would I be able to get a copy from there?
