My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Hampshire
I was at a bar with some friends (go figure). This one guy, throughout the night, kept saying very inappropriate sexual comments to one of my female friends. Eventually, the girl's boyfriend had enough and the two men began arguing heatedly. During some brief yelling, the man threated to commit multiple non-consensual sexual acts against my friend's girlfriend (it was quite vulgar; I'll keep it clean for you guys). At this point, I had heard enough and decided to step in. I hit the man once in the head, and he went down for about 5 seconds. That was the end of the fight. We were all kicked out and that was the end of it for the night.
Apparently this guy called the cops a few days later to report what had happened, and he is contemplating pressing charges. He is having trouble seeing out of the eye that I hit. Does the fact that this guy threatened to rape my friend help my case at all? I realize that I threw the first and only punch. No one was sober, by the way. I plan on getting a lawyer if arrested. The police want to "speak" to me (they left a message on my phone). Should I refrain speaking to the police unless arrested? In which case I would wait for a lawyer to speak with them.
Thanks for the advice
