I found out from an email company announcement that my male peer just got a promotion (we have them twice a year) from Associate Director to Director - the same one I was hoping to get at some point.
This came out of nowhere and shocked me to the core - we are both the same age, we have the same credentials, I work there for 3.5 yrs, he works there for 1.5 yrs. He has a fraction of my deliverables/achievements!

I went to our boss (he is our boss for 4 months now) and asked him what do I need to do to get a promotion - he didn't really know and said that he will need to talk to his management (they are all male of course!), HR, etc. Basically, I will never see it!
I also asked him on what basis my peer got a promotion - he admitted that he didn't initiate it (no surprise here - he doesn't even know us!) and he was told to do so. He suggested that maybe it is not about deliverables but about the 'soft skills'. I think he just didn't have anything better to say...

Now, what should I do: should I just look for another job? should I patiently work with my new boss for another 100 yrs to get what I deserved? should I fight it somehow? any other suggestions?

Thank you
