Default First Offense Shoplifting from Forever 21

My question involves criminal law for the state of: NYC

    So, here's the story.

I stole a pair of sunglasses ($5.80) and when I got outside of the store, a woman who said was working security said she saw me put the sunglasses in my bag. I hesitated because I was told you have to go back inside willingly or they can't do anything. The woman wouldn't let me walk away so I went into the back, she took out the glasses, I signed some paper saying I took it, she took my picture and photocopied my ID and told me not to come back for a year. She said it was my first offense so she was letting me off with a warning but also said that I would be fined "just a little more than" the item actually was. After I had signed papers. What I'm worried about is not being able to pay. I've heard Forever 21 fines a huge amount and I would accept what I did, pay something if it were $150 or less, and never do it again. Can anyone tell me what my consequences would be? I thought they didn't fine for first offense. I have absolutely NO criminal record whatsoever. Oh, and I'm 20 years old.
