My question involves divorce in the State of: Minnesota
When I was divorced from my ex-husband, per the divorce decree he was responsible for all credit card debt. I closed the credit card with both our names on it and told them it was because of divorce. I am the primary on the card though so they wouldn't take my name off it until it was paid off. I moved overseas and stupidly thought my ex was taking care of business. I learned about 2 years ago that he wasn't paying them and they were coming after me! I also found out that he reopened the account after I had closed it and the company also talked to a third party person about the account! I know they have broken the law but they sidestep that when I talk to them. They won't honor the divorce decree and are now threatening to send this account to collections.
I don't have the money to deal with this, I was diagnosed with MS 3 years ago and between hospital stays and medicine, I'm dealing with my own financial problems. My credit is good and this is the only smear on it; own my own home and paid off my car and student loans. I need help! I don't know what to do about this credit card or who to call to help me with all the things that the card company did. They've lied to me,called me at work, and also called my new husband at his job! How can they do this? I just need to know how I can fight this as my ex won't give me his new phone number or address because he knows I would sue him, I just know his in St.Paul or Minneapolis. What are my options? I can't afford to pay this and I don't want to because it's his debt! Please help, they say on the 9th of November they are turning it over to collections!
