My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: MA
hello,
I work in the allied health field. a few months ago switched to hourly employees to allow them greater flexibity to react to census.
we are now being pressured into "volunteer work" in the community with the aim of "marketing our services to the community and getting our name outthere."
there are now mandatory podcasts. when asked to get reambursed for these, we were told that we should concider them "professional development" therefore not being compensated for it.
is this legal?
if i were a salaried employee would either of these be legal?
I'm just checking bc I want to know what the legal answer is in case I decide to make a formal complaint. Of course regardless of what anyone says, once you drop that dime, your days in that company, maybe even any such company in the area, are over.
Anyway, thank you for your help.
