    Default Ticketed for Trespassing

Ok, me and a couple of friends got cuaght in Clifton, NJ trespassing. We were never really told what we were in trouble for until all the tickets were written up. The only thing the police officers said was that we were not being arrested. Mostly everyone in the group of 5 was 18 years of age. They processed us by taking our licences and that was that. They didn't ask us any questions and just handed us the tickets afterwards. We were told that to exit the premises and to pay the ticket when it comes in mail for a blank(i still haven't gotten the ticket in the mail-this happened yesterday night) amount. The officers weren't mean or anything, they just didn't help us in anyway. The thing was we didn't really know we were trespassing becuase we didn't see a sign and saw other people going to the same area. My main concern isn't the fine, but how this will affect my permanent record? and is there way to get rid of this all together. I am thinking about going to the court office and hoping someone would hear my side of the story, and just let this go. I mean were all good kids and having something like this on our record deff hurts us in the future. I was told by another friend that i should talk to the court clerk and they would be able to help and even may reduce the charges. Do you think these people will be that compassionate and understand that we were wrong, but dont want to be punished for life for something so minor. Thank you. Any suggestions are welcome. I have to wait till monday b4 i can get more information from the court, but i'd like to have as much info under my arsenal b4 i go there. Thanks again.

    Default Trespassing Charge

Without knowing what you are charged with, it's hard to speak to the possible consequences.

Perhaps you and your friends should collectively consult a criminal defense lawyer, to see if there is any chance of having the lawyer attempt to negotiate a deal on your collective behalfs, such as the dismissal of the tickets (whether outright or upon payment of a fine).

A court clerk shouldn't give you any legal advice, but may be able to provide helpful information. The person who would ultimately approve the decision to dismiss the ticket would be a prosecutor or city attorney, depending upon the nature of the ticket.
