My question involves defamation in the state of: Nevada.
When I balance my till at the end of the day we are required to sign for $200.
I work at a golf course and we had 2 tournaments and it was a very busy day. At the end of the day when I counted my money $200 was missing. I was worried because no one told me anything as to why the $200 bank was not their and I started to doubt myself so I started counting all the receipts and I balanced except for the $200. So I called my boss. To make a long story short she was very angry and told me she did not have to answer to an employee and the reason it was missing was something to do with the cc she put through (had she told me this none of this would have happened). I asked her if she could explain why I would have to sign for the $200 bank if there was not one? She remarked "well then don't sign for it if you don't want" and I don't have time to take the 15 minutes to explain what happened and you are questioning my authority as well as trying to "force a balance" We write people up for that. I told her that was not my intention and thought I was doing the right thing by calling her to let her know the money was missing.
Now she is very angry with me and I am due for an evaluation. I am very concerned that it will be negative. Should I sign it if it is? I am also being laid off and there is a position that opened up and she will not even consider me for it. I am a very hard worker I don't take cigarette breaks (which most of the employees do) and I am more then willing to do the "dirty" work that many of the other employees don't want to do. The other employees love me and I am great with the customers and I have never taken a sick day (maybe because I don't smoke).
I have no proof that any of this conversation took place. I probably should have made a copy of the till paperwork which shows the money missing, but I really did not think she would make such a big deal and accuse me of something I did not do. So, it may be my word against hers.
Your advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
