It depends on the judge. Legally speaking, you are not giving up your right to traffic school simply by opting for a TBD or a court trial. However, a judge is not under any obligation to refuse your request for traffic school if you choose either of those options.
Based on what you've posted, the fact that you were driving in excess of the speed limit... albeit "temporarily", and regardless of the reason why, (accelerated to over take a vehicle or otherwise) does not sound like a legitimate legal argument that could afford you a decent chance at a dismissal. (In fact, you are in essence, admitting to committing the violation).
Point is, if you're eligible for traffic school... And unless you have any other ideas for a defense (other than what you've posted), then you'd be better off taking traffic school and chalking it up as a lesson learned.
