Question Benefits of Having an Immigration Lawyer

Right now we're waiting for a decision from USCIS about our K1 fiancee visa after being denied by the American embassy. We've did all the leg work and put together all our paperwork. My question is, if our case gets denied and we have to do an appeal, would it benefit us to pay extra for a lawyer or could we carry out our own process? How much more affective is having a lawyer? What can they do beyond what we're capable of ourselves?

Sometimes the most important thing a lawyer can do is to force the USCIS to follow its own rules.

Not everybody needs a lawyer. Using a lawyer won't necessarily improve the outcome. But we can't make the call for you - you need to decide for yourself if it's worth the cost of hiring a lawyer, and if you are in fact capable of navigating the process without the help of a lawyer.
