My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Washington
I received a speeding ticket in a school zone in Snohomish County today. I was going 28mph in a 20mph zone and SMD is checked.
The sign stated 7am to 5pm, and does not flash.
My issue is that on the school zone traffic safety for WA state, it states the reason for these zones is to protect children - there were no children in sight (or even another car) as I was stopped an hour before school. I thought the sign was when children were present, but it was a very foggy day and by the time the sign was viewable to see it was from 7-5, I had already been pulled over. It was clearly a speed trap, and when pulled over the officer asked me what I did for a living (I work for a school district). She took my ID and went back to the car, and proceeded to laugh with her partner about how I work for the school district and was receiving a ticket in the school zone. You could say I didn't think it was funny. I do drive by the school on my way to work daily so I should know better but to be honest I did think that it was during school hours or when children were present.
Is there anything I can do?
Thanks for any help.
