Default Second Degree Assault on Officer

My question involves criminal law for the state of: I was walking into a homecoming tailgate at a University in the state of Maryland and I was told I was too drunk to come inside. I told the cop that I was not to drunk and aske dhim to give me a breathalizer or sobriety test. He then told me to leave and I began to walk away and he and another officer grabbed my arms viciously. I did not see them coming so as soon as they did I pulled away attempting to talk to them and they took that as assault. Then I was tackled to the ground by 4 other officers and beaten on the ground. There were no serious injuries just bruises and choke marks around my neck. I have at least 10 witnesses who saw this and classified it as police brutality. A article was published in the school newspaper by an unbiased source who saw this with no relation to me aclling it police brutality.
My question is for a situation like this do I need a lawyer, can I press police brutality, and can I use a public defendent or will that result in possible charges.

If you were charged criminally, you should consult an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, an attorney will be appointed for you.

If you feel you were treated wrongly then you can consult an attorney regarding possible civil action against the agency and/or make a personnel complaint against the officers involved.
