My question involves criminal law for the state of: Virginia

I am 18 years old. I was recently caught shoplifting a 13$ item from Wal-Mart...i am a first time offender and was shaking to death when I got caught...I cooperated and did not fight the man who busted me...I was brought back to a room and I gave him the item. I used "yessir" and "No sir" the whole time and gave him no hard time at all...Police were not called...He took a picture of my license and he filled out a description of me and such...He did not make me sign anything nor did he trespass me from the store (but he did escort me to my car afterwards and told me I wasnt allowed on the property for the rest of the night) -- He assured me that my family and friends and college would not find out about this incident and he thanked me for being so cooperative with him...He told me that he would just put my name and info into the system so that wal-mart would be able to know I had been caught before...Should I be concerned with receiving a Civil Demand letter/fine in the mail if he told me that nobody would know about it??? If so, what is the usual price range for this sort of thing??? Any GOOD info will be a great help...please dont leave any hateful comments, as I know I made a mistake and already feel guilty enough about it. thanks.
