Default Relocated With Spouse for His New Job

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: Massachusetts

Can I Claim Unemployment from MA? Is this considered good cause in Massachusetts? I've read conflicting information. Any firm answer would be so helpful.

    Thank you!

On the other board where you posted this question, I told you that I did not think this was considered good cause in MA (though I encouraged you to file anyway). However, on further reflection I think it's possible that this might be considered an "urgent personal reason", which would make you eligible.

In either case, though, I definitely think you should file. As I said on the other board, the worst possible scenario is that you're declined, and if that's the case you're no worse off than if you didn't file in the first place. But while a "trailing spouse" is not specifically listed as a qualifying reason, I think it is definitely worth your while to try.

Thank you for your response. I am in the process of filing, awaiting the determination.

Good luck to you. I personally believe that this should be a qualifying reason in all states; it's quite surprising to me how few states approve this!

If you have a moment, I'd like to explain the full circumstances to see if you have any advice:
When I told my employer that my husband was taking a new job in CA, I asked to work remotely rather than to quit my job. The highers-up agreed to have me work/transition for 6 weeks in MA + 3 months in CA, after which I would be terminated. If I appeal with these details, do you think there is a way to position it for me to win?
    Much thanks.

As I said above, it's worth a shot. But only the DUA can say for certain.
