My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: California
I submitted my resignation letter on Tuesday with a two-weeks notice to my employer. They accepted it and we had a short discussion as to how to proceed with the transition. At the time, it was agreed that I'd continue working. The next day, I'm called into the CEO's office and am told that they want me to rewrite and resubmit my resignation letter, but to make it effective the following day (Thursday). I'm also told that if I don't do this, they will fire me.
I am aware that my employment is at-will and I can be let go at any time. I am also aware that my employer can accept my resignation early. That being said, can they force me to rewrite my resignation letter when I already submitted it and it was accepted? Would this constitute a retaliatory firing, assuming they actually "fire" me and not just let me go? Lastly, is anyone aware of a particular reason that they would want me to resign rather than just let me go? I would not likely be filing for unemployment since I have a job already secured (hence resigning).
Thank you!
