My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
Hi, I am looking for some sound advice; I lost my job when I was verbally abused by a violent co-worker--I was employed for a few years, and this person subjected me to sometimes viciously horrible abuse and treatment, leaving me feeling upset, hurt, in tears, etc. horribly cutting tone of voice, just grossly improper for any kind of place. I reported them once or twice, and supposedly they were formally written up.
Anyway, there was a point where I felt I had been treated like garbage and castrated by this person for the last time, and left work one day, upset, and incoherent. I went back a few hours later, and this person had told the boss I had 'quit', and the boss seemed to take their word for it. They basically told me I had been fired, but rewrote it claiming it was a 'voluntary walk-off'. This was total bs. I worked for these people for years, over two years; still, I accepted it and left, fearing my safety.
I applied for UI benefits and received my award letter, then the interview letter, but I am not sure how lucky I will be with this. I am looking actively for jobs, but UI would help me a lot. I am worried my former employers will do anything they can to avoid this from happening. What can I do to give myself the best chance of success with receving benefits? I was a great employee, and really was treated so bad sometimes it was beyond improper.
