This all takes place in the state of CA.
To make a long story short, we broke our lease early, and legally due to my husband's military orders. We gave our landlord proper notice of termination. We contacted her several times about our security deposit ($850). She exceeded the legal 21 day limit to either refund or give us an itemized deduction statement. We contacted our lawyer, sent her a certified letter demanding our security deposit, according to the state of CA she loses rights to it after the 21 day period. Our lawyer gave her two weeks to respond. She did, but after the 2 week period. She sent us a statement, and is demanding that WE pay HER more money because our security deposit didn't cover all the "damages." I'm not sure what damages she's referring to, I cleaned the hell out of that house before we moved out, but didn't take pictures of it and now I'm kicking myself. My question is, can she legally demand more money from us to cover these so called "damages??"
