Default Can the police open your car door?

I was pulled over for reckless driving on the highway at about 10 at night. The cop walked over to the right side of my car and opened my door without asking. Is it illegal?

I doubt that there is any problem with the officer's actions. Normally when you are pulled over you would roll down your window. As you did not, and apparently made no move to do so when the officer knocked, he opened your door.

He walked to the SAFE side. Too many cops have gotten hit by passing traffic standing on the driver's side.

If he was on the passenger side, and you made no move to lower the window, he probably opened the door so he could speak to you ... and maybe he thought your lack of reaction was due to your being impaired or ill and he opened to check on you.

There could be any number of reasons why he opened the door.

What did he find when he opened the door?

So did you win? (Take it to the track if you were indeed racing on the street.)
