My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Illinois
I have a judgement from court in my favor against my tenant for non payment of rent and breach of contract before lease expired. At the time of contract, I was violation in a village ordinance requiring me to have a rental license to rent my place. Defendant's attorney is now claiming that contract is void and filing a motion to vacate the judgement. Does violating a village ordinance make a contract void ? The village didn't even cite me. I am now taking a class to get a license, but village requires a license for sole purpose of promoting crime free housing. Any expert opinions would be appreciated. This applies to other contracts as well, I assume.
