Default Green Card Renewal or Not

my husband was charged for domestic violence 9 years ago. the case was closed as a nol pros. he is due to renew his green card next year. he has been a legal resident for over 25 years. he was also considering applying for citizenship. Could he be deported? The case started because he thought i was cheating and he pushed me and threatened to hit me and take my son. so i call the police. Since then he has never touched me or threatened me again. we have been married for 16 years. no, i did not cheat. I'm also and american citizen, can this help him?

If the charge was dismissed without his allocuting (confessing on the court record), it's not a conviction for the purposes of the USCIS. However, if in explaining the events he admits to a domestic violence offense they could consider his admission. He may want to talk to an immigration lawyer about the best way to answer questions relating to the incident.
