Default Worried About Refusal of Entry

    Hello,

I'm asking this for a French colleague who needs to go to the US on business. He's got a strange chronic affliction where his fingers are completely eaten up by an allergy and thus he doesn't have any finger prints.

His French passport allows him into almost any country except the US where he's required to have a biometric passport. The French administration has tried to take his finger prints, but of course it won't register anything, so they are going to force his passport through.

But this doesn't do anything to alleviate the worry that once at the border, the US will refuse him entry. He's afraid that they'll do worse than refuse him, that they'll bar him from the states forever.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? He is going to call the US embassy in Paris, but I thought I'd ask on here too.

    Thanks!

Well, that's what we would have told him to do, because that's where he'll get an "official" answer.

It probably couldn't hurt if he had a letter from his doctor explaining his affliction, as well.

Well, he called and they told him that they didn't know - they only handle visas, not business trips.

One other thing you can try to do (probably will take some effort) is to contact the airport you are arriving at and see if you can find a phone number to their Immigration Custom enforcement group. If you can find that, maybe you can ask them directly.

One time I found a number for O'hare ICE office and ask them some very specific questions about an issue I was having.

Visit the website of the Airport the colleague intends to arrive at and start searching for contact information. Most likely you will only get airport contacts, but they may have a phone number you can call.

He called the State Department and found that they couldn't really do anything for him. They just told him to plan for at least 7 hours at the port of entry and they guy gave him his name and phone number in case he ran into any trouble. He tried to get the French government to make some note of his affliction on his passport, but the only thing they had available was 'hand amputated' and that doesn't really apply.

Well, he's going with his fingers crossed. I guess we'll find out what happens.
