What isn't reasonable is to allow you to have benefits if you are fired for a disqualifying reason.
We don't have enough information to say if this is the case or not, but the fact that you had an open claim does not mean that you are entitled to benefits regardless of how you lose your next job. Having an open claim is not a guarantee that you can "mess around" on the job, get fired for it, and still collect benefits.
The idea behind UI is that it is available for people who lose their job through no fault of their own, not for people who have an open claim and get fired for goofing off.
