Angry Emancipatation in Order to Qualify for Fafsa

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of:

    Kansas

I am a 21 yr old girl living in KS needing to become emancipated from my parents who live in North Carolina. Even though I am an adult colleges see me as a dependent. I have been on my own paying my own bills since I was 17. Fafsa won't bother with me unless I'm in the service, hitched, knocked up or 25 >_<. I just want to go to school and I know I qualify for it and Pells being that I am below poverty line. But my folks who are exceptionally well off don't want to assist in my higher education. I need to know what I can do as an adult to get myself emancipated so that the colleges and Fafsa will look at me as the adult I am

    any help is welcome

You already are legally emancipated, given that you are over the age of 18.

The FAFSA rule allowing emancipated minors to be viewed as financially independent is for those minors who went to court at the age of 16 or so and were legally granted relief from the disabilities of minority.

They are viewed as financially independent by FAFSA because the courts have declared them so.

You'll need to either discuss your situation with your school's financial aid office or postpone your studies until you're able to afford them.
