    Question Housemate Rent

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: Oregon.

I had to take in a housemate to make ends meet. I recently became unemployed and filed a claim. I have not declared the rent I collect. If I declare it $400, I will not be able to pay my bills and keep the house.
Can the unemployment office check my bank account? I was thinking of transferring it from savings to checking as I need to pay bills or should I have the renter pay the bills directly?

Sorry, but no one here is going to help you commit fraud.

I am not sure how that would constitute as "fraud". But I would just have your roommate pay his portion of the rent with his own checking account. For his own records draw up a lease signed by him/her.

I suggest flat-out asking UI if your receipt of rental income would affect your benefits.

I have an idea, instead of taking the cash yourself, have the room mate pay the bills or buy groceries.

Not declaring income is fraud, sorry. If the UI office then goes on to say, oh, rental income doesn't count, that's fine. But the poster made it clear that she was not reporting income so that she could continue to collect benefits, and was concerned that if the UI office had access to her bank records, she'd get caught. That's fraud no matter how you slice it.
