Default Liability for Emergency Medical Treatment

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Indiana

My father is visiting from abroad on a visitor visa. I took him to my doctor and was referred to a cardiologist. At both places, I signed to pay what his visitor insurance will not cover and I intend to do so. Cardiologist wanted to perform an angiogram and if needed an angioplasty or even a bypass surgery. Since we knew that the coverage is not enough and the bills could be large we declined the procedure.

While searching for options my father had to be taken to the emergency room followed by a transfer to the heart hospital where he received angiogram and angio plasty.

At the first hospital I signed for him, as he could not, i.e., I signed that my father accepts financial liability. I have not signed anything at the heart hospital but they took my SS# and a copy of my driver's licence.

I am worried sick as to what my financial liability could be. Appreciate any help/advice.

If you signed a contract agreeing to cover any medical bills not paid by your father or his insurance, the hospital can bill you for all of those charges.

It would be for whatever the contract encompasses.

Well the heart hospital, eventhough in a different town, is part of the same network of hospitals.

It is clear to me that I signed in place of my father because he was not able to. The contract is between the patient and the hospital. Not sure if they will read it as me signing, as I am taking responsibility.
