My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan and Maryland.
I recently received, an MIP in the state of Michigan while visiting the university of Michigan. I have no prior charges however the court date is booked for Monday the 5th of October and I will unfortunatly be back in Maryland. I suppose I could fly back for the court date however if there is anyway I could defer the trial to a Maryland court that would be amazing, although I doubt that is possible.
Also, because this is my first ever offense I have read that I can likely get the charges whiped with some community service and alcohol class and a fine. However, I was wondering if their is anyway I could complete this program in the state of Maryland or if its impossible to do without being in the state of Michigan. This whole situation is very unfortunate and it is mind-boggaling to me that being slightly drunk at a state university could be considered a misdemeanor offense and not simply a citation.
Thanks for any help.
