I am on probation in Michigan on a deferred sentence for possession of marijuana, two of the conditions of my probation are not to leave the State of Michigan and to report any contact with the police to my probation officer.
I was recently arrested in Florida for public intoxication, which the police and the couple of Florida lawyers I have spoken with say is a relatively minor crime. The police there insisted, over and over, that they were not going to inform Michigan of this arrest.
I am so close to being off probation I can taste it. While Florida may not inform Michigan, does that mean that Michigan will not find out? Will probation officer check some sort of national database upon my release date, and then violate me?
Is it possible to skate by on something like this without telling the probation officer? I have no history of evading the law, and I have a very minor criminal record, but I just really want it to be done and over with.
Any thoughts or, more importantly, facts, to share? Much appreciated!
