My question involves a roommate in the State of: CA
3 months ago I moved into an apartment by the beach with a woman that I met on craigslist. I interviewed her and did a background check before agreeing to be roommates. Everything checked out and we both signed the lease.
Since moving in things have started to unravel. She has either lied or not told the whole truth about anything. She was 2 days late paying the 1st month's rent. She was a week late in paying the 2nd month's rent. At this point, the landlord decided to terminate the original lease and issue a new one with me as the only lessee. During this meeting I also discovered that she hadn't paid her half of the deposit, so I have now paid the entire security deposit. About a week later I discovered that she had put my name on a rental contract with Rent A Center w/o my knowledge or consent.
The final straw was for September rent. Since she is off of the lease I made her sign a roommate agreement stating that her part of the rent is due to me by noon on the 5th of the month. When that date came she posted a note on the fridge stating that she did not have the rent. I verbally told her that this is not acceptable and gave until the end of the month to move out.
Since I have already given her verbal notice 2 weeks ago, should I also give her written notice? Can I change this written notice to a 3 day pay or quit? She has made no attempt to pack her stuff and I see no effort in getting ready to move out. What are my options here?
