Default Interesting Observation - Where Are the Fathers

Just noticing that when a husband or boyfriend has child support or paternity issues their wives or girlfriends are writing in on their behalf. Would like to know why the guys are not trying to find out what they need to do, or why the women in their lives want to help them through these situations. Just an interesting observation.

I suspect that it often works like this: Dad is paying his support or, after lapsing a bit, is now paying his support plus an additional payment toward arrearages, month after month. Dad enters new relationship that grows into a marriage. His wife, getting a big picture view of the household finances, wonders how he might reduce his support obligation and posts here.

I suspect you're right. From sitting in a family courtroom day after day, you have no idea how disgusted we are from looking at modification papers often times drafted by the new wife or girlfriend because SHE thinks he's paying too much. Sometimes, these men don't even know what is in these papers, only doing what he needs to do to pacify the newest thing in his bed. But it doesn't stop with the girlfriends and wives, the mothers are just as bad (if not worse).

Much less often do you see it the other way around where the new man has dragged his new wife/girlfriend into court to do battle with the ex.

What about the wives that write in on behalf of their husbands that are being sued for paternity and child support? Hello... he cheated on you and now you are trying to get him off the hook by doing all of this legal legwork. The facts are that he most likely lied to the wife, the other woman and anyone else along the way. This really has to be his problem to solve.

At first, I was half thinking you're making this up, at least with the grown adult type guys. But then I thought of how many times I've had students' (college students) parents come in wanting to talk to me about how their precious little darlings deserve some special consideration.

So, yeah. Sad. There should be some kind of cartoon you can innocuously in plain sight put on a wall for them to read.

Actually, there is a little sign on my desk when you approach and it says, "if your name does not appear on this case, I don't not need to speak to you. Please have a seat in the audience."
