    Default Caught Shoplifting at Wal-Mart

My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Jersey.

Look, please don't ask why I did it. I am young (17) and stupid. But this is what happened. My friend and I stole somethings, maybe the worth of $50 or less. We got caught, I turned myself in. The man behind me was talking to another man in front of us on the phone.

And these were his exact words: "If they leave, Ima lock 'em up but, if they turn around and give "it" to me, I'ma let em go."

I did what was natural, I turned around and handed him the stuff. He took us to the side, and wrote down our info, and the info of my friends mom, since she was the only one +18. I am 17, my friend is 16. We didn't get arrested, I suppose.

He told me this will happen:
-a letter will come in the mail, and I have to pay a fine. ($150)
    -community service
    -Banned from Walmart.

My mom called back and talked to them. And the guy said, to just pay the $150 dollars. I don't understand what will happen from here. Is this on my record? Is my life ruined? Can I do something? I'm young and stupid. I don't know why I did it. But what do I do now?

No arrest means no record. Your criminal record is clean.

However, Wal mart has your information and they will most likely post your information online to inform other retail stores...which means finding a job in retail or sth like that would be difficult.

Even if you were arrested, I believe getting your record expunged after it's possibly dismissed wouldn't be too difficult because you're so young.

    Good luck.

I hope so. God, why do young people (me) do stupid things? Well hopefully it will be, all there is a fine. And banned from Walmart. Which is okay, because I think Wal-Mart sucks anyway, they treat their employees like crap.

Do not contact them, wait it out, maybe he did like you heard him say, and he just let you go. Paranoia is a Bitc@, remember this in the future.
