Since leaving my employer I have been receiving short-term disability pay and, after 6 months, it went to being called long-term disabilty pay. Prior to the start of being paid the long-term disability pay, I had to sign a form stating that, if I was approved by the government for disability, and I received backpay, I would reimburse the longterm disability company for what they had paid me. It was either, sign that form, or have no money to support my two children wtih. Well, I was awarded disability retroactive to March 2004, which means that my longterm disability insurance company will be knocking at my door for their money once I receive it. I thought that they were going to only subtract the amount that I am awarded from what they send me, not take that amount and go back two years! I had planned on using that back pay to pay off debts that I am struggling to pay now that I am living on disability and don't make near the amount that I was making working. What can they legally do to me if I do not pay them the retroactive money? Thanks, Zoe
