My daughter wo is now 21, had a misdeamoner drug conviction in Ohio, for posession of controlled substance. She was 20 at time of arrest. She was placed on a year probation. She has just completed probation. Also, as a juvenile(15 & 16), she had some petty theft arrests for shoplifting in Pennsylvania. For, those offenses she had community service. My first question, "Would her juvenile offenses show up?"
Since, her arrest, she had completed a course in allied health field. She was still on probation. Her probation officer told they probably would not show up for criminal background checks for employment. That it showed up on his because his was a more expensive check, and employers would not spend that much money on a check. So, when she filled out applications, she did not divulge her arrests. She was also hired from two differrent hospitals pending a background check. However, after background check, she received letter stating that someone else was more suitable. They never stated that she had a negative report. However, the one took a long time, and the results were pending. I believe that was red flag. When she called the one place of employment, they never gave her a reason, and to contact HR. Human Resources just told her someone was more suitable for job. I am convinced that her records showed the drug charge. Although, her criminal background check for school came back okay. Of course, they just wanted her money and did a cheap, generic check. Her probation officer said that it should not show up after a year from time she completed probation. Should we seek expungement? Would she be considered a first- time offender, since her other charges were not drug-related, and commmitted as a minor in PA? She has grown up, and is a responsible young woman? I would like to see her get a job in the field that she went to school for. It has been over a year since she completed her course. Please refer us in right direction. Also, can I do a check, and what is estimated cost?
