Default Is a Spouse of a U.S. Citizen Eligible to Apply for a Student Visa

    Hello,

I was wondering if someone can help me. I met my husband online about 1 year and a half ago. We hit it off perfectly and would msn/skype/email/twitter every single day. After that, I decided to apply to US. colleges, in order to give the relationship a shot. I decided to go visit the schools in august as well as visit him.

It was all so intense and perfect, we ended up getting married after a week! Totally unexpected and crazy but very romantic. I had to go back home to finish everything up with applications for spring.

Now I'm a bit lost. Should I apply for the student visa since I'll be starting college in the spring? Will it be harder to be approved for it, since I'm married to a US. citizen?

My father will be sponsoring my college education, not my husband. I thought about ommiting that I'm married to a US. citizen, since I do not have any interest in becoming a permanent resident for the time being. I just want to go to school and be with him!

Does the guy at customs have access to the fact that I'm married now? I didn't do it to get a green card or anything, just because we were crazy in love and wanted a deeper commitment but now I'm scared it might actually make it more complicated to go study in the US.

    How should I proceed?

You cannot apply for a student visa without either (a) disclosing your marital status and the name of your spouse, or (b) lying. Do I need to tell you this? You don't want to lie on a visa application.

Your spouse is a permanent resident of the U.S.? What's the downside in seeking permanent residency?
