My question involves criminal law for the state of: Louisiana
In 2005 I was using crack one night and sold my car to a dealer for a hit of crack.. I was heavily into drugs, I no longer use and have been in recovery since then. I did not have a record before that and do not have a record to this day.I moved to Wisconsin after the hurricane katrina. I have been on disability (mental PTSD) since June of 2005 this occurrence happened in September 2005. So, my story was I called the police and told them my van was stolen, they found the dealer, arrested him and gave me my car. Two hours later they came to bring me to the station for questioning. I sat there with detective and told him the story of how this dealer yanked me out of the car and stole it (which was a lie). Which the story was videotaped. The detective told me the dealer claimed there were witnesses stating I sold the van for drugs to this dealer (there were no witnesses). They sent me home, after that I don't remember much. I was in a state of hysteria, withdrawing, and delusional. Still it is my responsibility to clean this mess up. I called Louisiana in 2006 and they stated I do have a warrant out for my arrest. I did not have the money to travel there, and still do not. My question: I know I need to go to LA and get a lawyer. Should I get a lawyer in my state or LA? and what would you say (in your experience and opinion) would be the outcome? is it a felony? would they make me serve time there or here... probation... what? I am scared, still on disability but want to clean up my mess.sorry so long, but wanted to be as detailed as possible, thanks.
