    Default After Termination

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: GA

So my employer decided to terminate my position.
I am worried this will put a permanent stain on my record? Will I be able to be employed with other companies? Should I contact a lawyer to make sure there is no defemation of my character?

    Whoa, whoa, whoa!

Back the truck up, there, a minute or two. Slow down. Let a little air out of that ego. You're about to make the biggest mistake of your life if you follow in that line of thinking.

Elimination of a position is a headcount issue only. It does not in any way leave any kind of "stain" on your record. It has nothing to do with you or your work performance; it's a business decision that would have been made regardless of who was doing your job. Few of us in the current market have not gone through a position elimination at some point in our careers. It's not going to have any affect on your ability to be employed elsewhere, and you should only file any kind of lawsuit if you want to make yourself unemployable for the rest of your life.

No employer is going to care that you were the victim of a headcount reduction, but if you call it defamation and sue, no one will even look at your application.

This, in ten foot tall, flashing neon letters.

Getting downsized is not even remotely close to defamation of character. It's just...getting downsized. Congratulations, you've just learned Real World Lesson #101: the working world sucks.
