    Default Mandatory Health Coverage

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: VA

I was recently told by an AFLAC agent that if my husband's employer provided health insurance to their employees, that they were required by law to pay a certain percentage of the employee's premium. Is this true? They contribute a very small amount towards his coverage & we pay for all of mine. They are deducted pretax from his payroll check bi-monthly.

Virginia is not my state, but I've never heard of this and I would think I would have if it were true.

Even the arguably most employee-friendly state of California doesn't mandate that an employer pay a portion of medical insurance for employees, and Virginia is nowhere near as employee-friendly as CA.

MA does. But MA has unique laws regarding health insurance to begin with.

I know there are one or two states that have such a requirement, but I couldn't find any indication that VA is one of them in the state insurance statutes. You can always ask the state insurance commission.

However, mandatory health coverage is not the same as mandatory employer contributions to coverage that may already be available.

No, it isn't. But MA has mandatory employer contributions, as well.

C'mon, Patty, it's me. Don't you think I know what the law in my own state is?

I know. I was basically trying to point it out to the poster.
