Default Police Let Me Go On A 'Caution' in Canada

Okay I know it was stupid and all that. I was caught with merchandise under 20 dollars (canadian) at the bay. I was taken to the back and given a mall security waiver saying to stay off mall property aswell as away from the bay and also their demand for their civil claim which I intend on paying.

The police were called but he told me that the courts are so backlogged with stuff right now that giving a caution was an option they had. So does this mean I'm NOT going to court? I thought they had to file everything... yes im confused.

Okay and also, for teh civil demand thingy, when it comes in the mail does it look legal? Cuz I'm going away and I don't want my entire household seeing this massive legal document in my name ( I havent told anyone here about my stupidity yet)

ANY HELP WOULD BE REEAAALY HELPFUL. Thanks so much.

I am not familiar with the Canadian legal system so I can't tell you anything about the "caution". As for the civil demand I know for my company we have attorneys that work for us and they are who send out the Civil Demands, so I would assume that it would come from an attorney's office somewhere. What it actually looks like I can't tell. I have never seen one.

If the police "Cautioned" you, it means that. But, they will have paperwork on the incident and in the future if the "same" police force questions you on anything they will have that information to make any further decisions.

Civil demand, you would had already gotten it, by now. It is sent in a normal size9 envelope.
