Default Reckless Driving Due to Speed, I May Lose My License

    Hello everyone,

Unfortunately i got myself into some trouble. While driving from New York City to the Poconos i was pulled over in Sparta New Jersey for speeding. It was while traveling downhill. I didnt realize how fast the car was traveling due to the fact that i threw the car into neutral so the engine was extremely quite. i was doing 87 in a 55. On top of the speeding summons i received a reckless driving summons because i was going 30 mph over the speed limit. what do i do? i already have 6 points so if i get convicted i will most likely lose my license. Is it worth fighting? Hows it work if its another state? Is there any way to plea bargain? Please help! my boss is going to kill me and in these times a happy boss is worth more then most things. Thanks for any input.

You're supposed to be able to gauge your speed by glancing at your speedometer not by how loud the engine is. Also, don't mention that you had it in neutral in court; it is illegal to coast like that in most states and it maybe so in NJ.

Please post the statutes you were cited for... Number and description.

Describe how your speed was measured, where the officer was... Sometimes it is worth fighting, sometimes it isn't.

If you're convicted in NJ, then those violations are reported to the NY DMV and points are assessed to your driving record according to the V&T statutes of NY.

Sure there is... But the only person who can give you a definitive answer on that is the prosecutor on the case.

Have you consulted with an attorney yet and one who is local to the court where you're scheduled to appear? It might be wise to do so as they are more familiar with local procedures and can, at least, give you an idea as to what to expect better than anyone here.
