My question involves criminal law for the state of: virginia
Someone threatened to kill me and it was on a voice mail. Is this punishable by law, and if so, does anyone know the statute of limitations on such and offense.
thank you

A verbal threat is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of $2500.
Did you report the threat to the police when it was made?
The person in question made several threats that day, to kill his wife, daughter, the grandmother, another friend in front of the police while on the phone. A police officer does know about my incident, but no report was filed. He already spent some time in jail for the other incidents until he appealed it. He has numerous criminal charges on his record. Domestic violence etc. Thanks for you info.
Good luck with your issue. A guy that both my boyfriend and I hate called my boyfriend about two weeks ago, threatening to kill him by using his head to bash in his car windows. Needless to say, we called the cops to try and file a report for harassment or anything we could get. Lo and behold, my boyfriend gets a call from the cop the next day saying they aren't going to do anything about it unless the guy calls my boyfriend again. Thanks Irmo PD!
(We later found out that the reason they won't do anything is because the guy that called my boyfriend.. his brother's girlfriend works for the police department. Gotta love connections right? Basically they can threaten and harass my boyfriend all day long and get away with it.)
