I was put on probation in March of 2008 for a DUI 2 conviction in Vermont. In late July 2008 I moved to Maine with permission to live with my then fiance, now Husband. My case was transferred to Maine in November 2008. I completed the reparative board program and victims impact panel in October of 2008, and my 200 community service hours in December of 2008 (all in Vermont). My counseling was completed in April of 2009 which completed the expectations given by the court 11 months early, yet neither Vermont or Maine filed the paperwork for case dismissal. In July of 2009 the probation officer in Maine violated me for drinking in my home and put me in jail for 21 days saying he was waiting to hear from Vermont about what to do with me. Vermont probation insisted that there was nothing they could do. I was finally released and told to report to Maine P.0 every morning at 9:00 a.m which I have been doing. Since then I have received a summons to appear in court for a violation of probation in Lamoille County, Vermont. My husband and I do not own a vehicle and will be renting one to comply with the court date on September 15, 2009. I have been informed by Vermont probation that I am not allowed to return to my home of the past year in Maine, and don't understand how the State of Vermont could force me to be homeless in Vermont with no income or resources. Vermont P.O has said he doesn't care and he will have me arrested if I come home and will leave me in jail because Vermont will not extradite me. I am trying to speak with a public defender at this point. Vermont P.Oand his Supervisor have been extremely unhelpful in this matter. Can the State of Vermont really force me out of my home in Maine and into the streets? Is there anything that I can do?
