Default Minor Name Change in Texas

My question involves name change laws in the State of: Texas

My child was born in Texas but we now live in Florida, the father is not on her birth certificate but wants his name added and he is now paying childsupport. Do I HAVE to change her last name to his or can the child have both? How does this work?

    Default Re: Minor Name Change

Typically, the child can have both. It is not usual for the court to force the child's name to be changed to that of the biological father simply because he has finally started paying support.

He can ASK, but he's probably not going to get more than Baby MamaName-DaddyName, it will will be addressed during the paternity action that he must bring in order to be added to the birth certificate.

You can find discussions of how to add a father to the birth certificate here.
