Default Chance of Deferral For an Intermediate Driver's First Offense

My question involves traffic court in the State of: Washington

My son was recently pulled over and givin a speeding ticket for doing 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. This is an explainable mistake as most of the road is infact 55 mph and he is a new driver. Also he was givin a verbal warning for having two of his cousins in the car. Is it possible for my son to get a mitigation hearing and request a deferment? Also is it at all likely he will get it? If not are there any other options to keep this ticket off of his record?

Default Re: Chance of Deferral For an Intermediate Driver's First Offense

He should be eligible for a deferral, assuming he has no other violations on his record.

If there's a chance of beating the ticket, that would be better for him (in case he gets another ticket before the deferral period ends), but... Unless he can document improper or missing signage, arguing "the speed limit changed and I didn't notice" will in my opinion get him all of nowhere in court.
