Default Reporting a Minor Misdemeanor (Failure to Yield Right of Way) on College Application

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Ohio

Hi, I live in Ohio and was just given a traffic ticket for failure to yield right of way. The ticket states I was in violation of section 4511.43 (the failure to yield part) and since I'm 17, section 2152.02, which pertains to juvenile traffic offenders. I am a high school senior and will soon be applying to colleges using the Common Application, which has a question that reads: "Have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, or other crime?" Since I am a juvenile I have to make a court appearance and once I do so I will have been convicted of a minor misdemeanor. I have heard that I do not have to report a minor misdemeanor on applications since it does not create a criminal record. Is this true? Will I have a criminal record after my court date and will I have to answer "yes" to that question on the Common Application. Another thing to consider: do the laws of the states of the schools I am applying to pertain here? or do Ohio laws?

    Thanks much for any help.

I'm also unsure if this question should be in this section or in "Criminal Records" Someone please correct me if I'm wrong or have an admin more this post.

You will never be harmed by disclosing a minor traffic ticket. I don't know that you would ever have a problem by not disclosing it either, since traffic tickets are ubiquitous. Most people get one now and then, sometimes more so when they are young. By disclosing you're showing that you're a stand-up person not trying to hide anything. Nobody will ever refuse to hire you because you had such a traffic ticket. Get too many of them and that answer could change, though.
