My question involves a security deposit in the State of: CA
My roommate received a joint check for security deposit return from the landlord. Now he has the check and I have nothing... my roommate left and even didn't pay the last months rent.
What are my options on getting my share of security deposit? I paid all of it, but I have no proof other then verbal agreement at the time when we signed the lease. It was paid in one check. I am not sure, if there was only one name or both names.
I am affraid that my roommate may try to cash without my endorsement, but most likely he may just hold it forever.
I spoke to the property manager, he would not write 2 separate checks 50/50
What should I do?
