Today I went to court for my speeding ticket. 69 in a 55. There is no way i was speeding as my cruise control was set and i hadnt been in front of the cop for more that 10 seconds before he hit his light. This was a pacing ticket, not a radar by the way. I got nervous and did a couple of stupid things but here was my case. The officer readily admitted that I passed him, and he pulled me over shortly after passing him. My site of offense and site of arrest are less than a mile apart, yet the officer said he paced me for one mile on my citation. I brought this up, and the officer admitted that i had not been in front of him long before he stopped me. the judge asked if my speedometer had been calibrated, i told him yes because i didnt want to have to have another court date in the future. he then asked for my previous driving record. I told him i was stopped for a ticket when i was 16 but other than that, nothing. the cop told him i had no record. The judge looked at me and goes "well since this isnt your first offense according to you, i will reduce it to 64 in a 55." So i kind of screwed myself there. My point is, i have a digital speedometer that i know is accurate, and i hadnt been around the cop long enough for me to be accurately paced. The judge told me i can appeal the ticket. Should I?? how bad will my insurance go up for 3 points on my license?
