Wow! I have never been in trouble before, but I always thought you needed to obey an instruction from a police officer when they tell you to get out of the car. What if he would have refused? I mean the driver did not allow a search. Learn something everyday...

Suggestion: Your son is old enough to have made the decision. He had the money to buy the pot. He's college age. Why not make him get a part-time job during college and pay for the legal expenses himself? Or ask him to pay you back in installments? That way HE is the one paying for his mistake, and more likely to learn from the experience.

I don't think people have been seized since the days of the Romans, additionally
you are simply being detained momentarily until the officer concludes his investigation. You are only under arrest after the officer informs you that he is placing you under arrest.

I disagree with this. If you don't comply with an Officer's commands during a "Terry" stop. I guarantee you will soon have chafed wrists

Case Law? Yes. Constitution? No

A couple questions.

1) Was the front seat passenger legal drinking age?

2) Was the car on public, or private property at the time?
