    Default Price Tags Switched

My question involves criminal law for the state of: california

I returned an item at abercrombie and that item wasn't the item that i purchased. Also, I went to a different store to return it. I switched tags with another item (also from abercrombie) before coming to the store. At abercrombie, they need manager's card in order to do the return so the employee asked the manager to come to the register to give her the card. As the employee was trying to do the return, the computer notified her if the amount will be credit to a store credit or a gift card but that's weird because I purchased that item with a CC. then the employee had to call the manager for help.

For my other previous returns, everything went smooth. However, for this recent return, the manager came and asked to see my CC, then she used the phone to call somebody (I dont know who). She was on the phone for about a minute but she wasn't talking so I'm guessing she entered my CC # to LP company???? After she was done, she did my return instead of the other employee that helped me in the first place and the amount went back to my CC and after that, she just walked away.

I'm feeling guilty so I'm wondering will they ever find out? is there any way they can check my CC? and track down all my returns? I've been doing a couple of returns, probably twice a month or so. Will I get a summon or something in the mail? That's the last thing I want =( If only I knew better.

Please help me. Thank you in advance!!

    I would plan on it.

They were checking to see if you had ever used that CC to purchase the item you were returning.

Believe it or not, LP has seen this trick before. At least you were kind enough to fill out the form with your name and address for them.

Actually, they didn't ask me to fill out that return form or maybe they forgot? Usually, whenever I return, I have to fill out that form.

Btw, so you think there is a high chance that they will track me down?

I'd say there's a high chance that the next time you use that CC in an Abercrombie store, LP is going to want to talk to you, up close and very, very personal.

Word to the wise? Stay out of Abercrombie, and stop committing theft. A future of having a hard time finding a job because of a criminal record for petty theft is no fun. Have a look around these boards, you'll find a lot of people who've been caught, and now can't get jobs that don't include paper hats and different inflections on the phrase "Is that for here or to go?".

    It's not worth it.

    ^^Thank you for the advice.

I'm SO not going to do this anymore. This feeling is killing me and I'm really worried that they will somehow find out.. and come to my house to arrest me >.<. I'm gonna stop going to Abercrombie cause I don't want them to recognize me and I might be in trouble for something.

Please feel free to leave advices, I'm all ears.

FYI: I purchased a shirt in that same day, also used the same CC to pay and everything was smooth, nothing happened.

Translation: I am already thinking I am okay.

You are not. Believe it or not, they can track you down with your credit card number.

This is called "leaving a paper trail".

^^I didn't say I was okay. I have a feeling something bad is going to happen.

As LawResearcherMissy stated...stop switching tags. It is considered Return Fraud, and is treated as Retail Fraud.

I've worked retail and I've seen this: People who used the same mode of operation: Pics and name posted right next to the employee time clocks. Sometimes even at the work area where it occured (example: Return Fraud - pics posted at the return counter).

I'll also tell you that paying for a portion of your item is still going to be counted as Retail Fraud. Seriously: $50 can suddenly become $2000+. Ask yourself if it is worth the risk.

^^ I know what you mean. I will not do it ever again, and it's not worth it. Sometimes I let the evil side takes the best of me. Am I in big trouble now? So they might have took my picture without me knowing and have my picture and name posted at the register >.> ,

    It is possible.

Avoid that store for a long time.

    Learn your lesson from it.

And I don't mean to try to scare you. But next time you are in a store, look at all the security cameras. You never know if they have tape in the them or not, or if the tape is viewed later, held for another date....

In my area, a woman was almost abducted from a parking lot...no camera, no evidence. On the other hand, you never know what is happening with cameras inside the store.
