My question involves medical malpractice in the state of: Alaska
A little less than 2 years ago, my wife's appendix ruptured. She went to the ER and reported right lower quadrant abdominal pain and it was misdiagnosed as an ovarian cyst and she was sent home. When the pain finally became too much she demanded more tests and they finally discovered the real reason for her pain. The surgeon then messed up the first surgery and she had to have a second surgery just a week later (we were not charged for the 2nd surgery). We strongly considered legal action, but decided against it.
Today my wife is going back to the doctor for severe lower right abdominal pain and I strongly suspect that it is a complication of the ruptured appendix.
Had it not been for the initial misdiagnosis (they didn't even do a white blood cell count) she probably wouldn't be going through any of this, and the botched first surgery certainly didn't help matters. She went through incredible suffering before, during, and especially after the surgeries and if she needs another one I'm going to be furious to say the least.
What are my options here if I want to initiate legal action? How would I go about it? We have all the medical records from the whole incident and it lines out everything, even their mistakes.
Thanks for any info!
