I got pulled over about a month ago and the Police Officer tells me my license plate is revoked. I ask him why and he goes and finds out that it was revoked the day before he pulled me over due to a stop on my insurance. So he takes my plate and license and lets me walk home.
The next day, I call my insurance company and they send a form that says I had insurance at the time i was pulled over, to the DMV. I then call the DMV and they inform me that my plate and license were revoked due to a lapse of insurance that had happened over a year ago (with a different insurance company). They inform me that my plates will be revoked for 30 days and I will be able to get my license back once I get my plates back.
My court date for the ticket was scheduled for 2 days after the 30 period was up. I don't have the money to pay all the fees to get my plate and license back before my court date, as I have been in between jobs while I moved recently.
Would it be best to ask for a continuance when I go to court? Then get my plate and license back, and hopefully talk to the DA about getting the charges dropped?
Any advice would be great!
